Remember

Hope you are having a good Memorial Day. Today is a day when we should all take a moment to be remember and be thankful to the one who gave their lives defending our freedoms and to the ones who serve now or have serverd in our military. Even if they were lucky enough to return home, they are forever changed and will never forget the effects of war.
My dad served in the Korean War. He was drafted at age 19 and went into basic training in October of 1949. He returned home on December 20 and he and my mom were married December 27. He shipped out for Korea on Jan 2. It must have been so hard for my mom to see her husband of 5 days leave for war. The picture of my dad and his cousin Barbara above was taken just before he left for basic training, he was so handsome!
I also included a picture of my mom that was taken around the same time as the one of my dad, I don't have any of them together at this age. This holiday is always hard for me because she died on Memorial Day in 1981 from cancer.

Happy Birthday, Human

Good Saturday morning! I thought I would use the sketch from MOJO Monday again but the color scheme from a new challenge blog by inLinkz which was to make a boy birthday card using these colors.
Posted by Picasa
My girls get invited to a lot of birthday parties and I am usually scrambling around just before the party to get one made so I am one up for the next boy party. inLinkz is giving some awesome prizes away, so make a card and link it up for a chance to win!

MOJO Monday

Good morning! I feel like it has been forever since I have been able to stamp, I have had a sick baby for the past 3 days. He is much better today, amazing what a switch in formula can do. Today's card was made using the MOJO Monday sketch for this week. I had some silver card stock in my stash and ran it through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice embossing folder and then layered on some Night and Day(retired) DSP. The motorcycle is a single stamp from the Summer Mini and is perfect for those hard to make masculine cards. Hope you like it!

Sweet Sunday/Curtain Call

Good morning! Today I have a card I made for two challenges, one for the color combo and one for the sketch. The color challenge is for the Curtain Call Act 31 and we were to use Night of Navy, Garden Green, Pretty in Pink, Almost Amethyst, and Whisper White. You can check out all the beautiful creations here . I love the inspiration piece and would love to see it sitting in my backyard. The other challenge was the sketch from Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge and the link to that is here. Lots on my To Do list today, hopefully I can squeeze in some stamping time!

Whoever is Happy

Good Saturday morning! I am really enjoying these rolled flowers. The color of my flower today is actually Tempting Turquoise although the camera doesn't agree. The sentiment is from the stamp set Hope Happens. The DP is Island Oasis and Good Neighbors pad and the card stock is Kraft and Old Olive. That's it for today, we are off for Swim Team Tryouts, shop for new clothes, lunch with a friend, a birthday party, and then a movie after dinner with Dad.

Tropical Party

It seems like a long time since I made a 3-D item so today I made a little bag using the stamp set Tropical party. The front was totally inspired by a card from Stampin' Success magazine( a magazine for Stampin' Up demonstrators) made by the talented Jackie Topa. She had a punch monkey on hers but I went with a palm tree. We get invited to a lot of birthday parties between both girls and I thought this would be perfect to tuck a gift card in for a pool birthday party. The bag is made using the Fancy Favor die.

If you enjoy making 3-D items, there is a blog just for you! It is called Paper Cubed and each month a challenge is issued and you can up load your projects and possibly win a prize. This month the challenge is to make a shadow box. You can check out all the entries so far by going here.

Curtain Call Color Challege: Act 30

Good morning! Today I tried a new technique called rolled flowers. There is a tutorial on Splitcoast for this but I used the Table Setting Bigz die and just cut it down a little from the original size. I also did this for the Curtain Call color challenge which was to use Basic Black, Kraft, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, and Pink Pirouette. I also used Vanilla Smooch on the flowers but the camera didn't capture it very well. You can check out all the other projects using this challenge here. Hope you like it.

Not the Typical Grad Card

Today I have a card I made for my nephew and it isn't the kind of graduation card I typically make, I usually use a cap & gown or diploma embellishment. But, Brodie isn't the typical graduate either. He has always been so dear to me and many times when he and his mom would disagree about something he would come talk to me for advice. Well, this time it was Mom wanting advice. Brodie has never made anything but A's all through school and has played sports and excelled at everything he has attempted but now that he is through high school, he has decided not to go to college. He is in love and wants to get married and go to work in the coal mines. Now, there is nothing wrong with being a coal miner, my husband is a retired coal miner as was my Dad and just about all my uncles and grandfathers. I am going to try to convince him to get a coal mining degree and then if he wants to be a coal miner he can start out in management which is a lot safer. I will see him in June and have thought hard about what to say to him, I thought this sentiment was very fitting.

I made this card for the MOJO Monday sketch. I used Travel Journal designer paper and Night of Navy. The piece made with the Top Note is also a pocket and I plan on adding money to it before giving it to him

Bundle of Joy

Good Saturday morning! Thought I had better post earlier than usual since I have a lot going on today. I needed two baby girl cards for church Sunday and discovered all I had left was for boys. This one is CAS and quick. I thought I would try this ribbon technique again, I really like it but I needed to add one more pleat to the right side. The stamp is from the Little Angel set. Thanks for stopping by.

Flip Scrapbook

Posted by Picasa

Today I have a cute little flip scrapbook to share with you. I made it using one half of the Cool Kids Simply Scrappin' kit. This one is for my daughter Shelby and I have enough materials left to make my other daughter Sadie one. I love how it gives tons of space for the child to journal or add photos. There are journaling ideas such as "If I had a million dollars..", Because..., My family is so cool because..., and many more. I got this idea from Heather Summers. Thanks for stopping by!

Smooched

Good evening! I have more retired or retiring papers on my card for today. The base is Very Vanilla, the mat is Creamy Caramel(which is retiring), and the Top Note is DP(can't remember the name but is retired). This was a very quick and easy card, I tried a ribbon technique I have been seeing around. I am not sure how others are doing it but I put a layer of sticky strip across the paper and just pleated the ribbon onto it. I used a LOT of Vanilla Smooch on this card so it is really sparkly in real life. I put my sentiment on the inside . Thanks for stopping by!

Elements of Style

Good morning! Today I have a card using the stamp set Elements of Style. I love that this stamp can stand alone or be colored in and looks good either way. This was a quick and easy card, I cut the scallop circle and circle out with, stamped my flower image, ran the white piece through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice embossing folder, layered the card with a piece of retired Sweet Always paper, add a punched sentiment and done! Oh, one other thing, I spritzed the stamped image with Glimmer paint/alcohol mixture.

I forgot to mention yesterday...a HUGE thank you to Joe Emery for fixing my camera! He is a genius!!!

Sweet Sunday Sketch

Good afternoon, I had a few minutes to stamp between loads of laundry so I thought I would give the Sweet Sunday Sketch a try. I really like how it turned out, I used mostly scraps left over from Technique class on Saturday. My new favorite stamp set right now is the Watercolor Trio from the Summer Mini. The paper is from Island Oasis, I have used almost the whole package and will be ordering another for sure.

If you want to play along with this challenge all you have to do is make a card using the sketch and link it up here . Thanks for stopping by.

Wedding Fever

Hope you have had a good weekend, I have had a busy one but I have still got a lot accomplished. I am working on a wedding order, 150 shower invitations. I have all the card stock cut and scored, the dresses cut out, and most of the tuxedos cut. I have about 25 put together and plan on shipping tomorrow if all goes well. I have another order waiting in the wings as soon as this one is complete so never a dull moment. This card was made using a free template that I found on Lynn Pratt's Stamp-n-Design blog, she is a very talented stamper so make sure you check her out. I had Technique class yesterday and Sadie had a birthday party to go to and then today was baby dedication at church as well as Mother's Day, life is busy but good!

Favorite Thoughts

Whew, I am aggravated at my poor broken camera! I haven't been able to photograph anything in two days, I am long overdue for a new one but the budget says no right now. Anyway, here is a card a made a few days ago with the stamp set Favorite Thoughts. It includes 4 cute sayings about women. I used some retired paper again and used the crown from the stamp set Princess Time. I have been working on some other items to go with my Tikki Hut but can't show you until I get my camera worked on.

Don't forget about the special I have going on , check here for all the details! And don't forget you can play along and win prizes at the Paper Cubed blog, the challenge this month is to create a shadow box. Check it out here.

Tiki Hut

I thought of this in the middle of the night and soon as I got out of bed started to work on it. Now, it is not exactly as I envisioned but I am still working on it. I designed it around a bird house I made a while back which I CASED from Teresa . I think the Square Lattice embossing folder kind of looks like tree bark so that is where the idea for a tiki hut came from. I have a lot more to show you that goes along with this but I will have to load it a little later since I am still having a few camera problems.

Workshop To go

I wanted to repost some information about an idea I came up some time ago since I had a request for one today(thanks Donna). I do what I call a "Workshop to Go". This is where someone decides to host a workshop at their house but they live too far for me to drive to them, so I prepare all the materials for 3 projects and mail it to them, they invite their guest over for a fun workshop and take orders, I submit the orders to SU and then they are mailed directly to them by SU. I have had quite a few of these and they have all been successful so if this is something you think you might be interested in, shoot me an email... dls8383@gmail.com.

MOJO Monday

Hi, I'm back with my card for the MOJO Monday sketch. I combined stamps from two sets for this one, First Day(one of the qualifying stamps for the free brads) and Go, Graduate. I used more retired paper, I really need to get some paper used up before the next catalog. You can check out all the other cards at the MOJO blog by clicking here.

Sweet Sunday Sketch

Hi, I am posting twice today, that is unusual for me but I wanted o show you what I whipped up for the Sweet Sunday Sketch. I don't do very many Mother's Day cards. I lost my mother 29 years ago when she was only 44 so I just struggle even making them. Hope you like it. You can check out the other cards made using this sketch here on Karen Giron's blog.

For all You Do

Good afternoon, hope you have had a good weekend. I am trying to use up retired papers so I used some Sweet Always DP for this card. The stamp set is For All you do. The embossing is done with a new embossing folder from the summer mini called Square Lattice and the butterfly was done using the Beautiful wings embosslit.

Did I tell you that you can win prizes by playing along with the challenges over at the Paper Cubed blog. The challenge for May is to create a Shadow Box. So get busy and make one and link it to the P3 blog!
